Newly arrived Super D 49395 and J15 65462 stand at the water column after having arrived from Newbridge yard. Q6 63395 departs Levisham at the start of the 1in49 climb towards the summit. B1 61264 starts the long climb towards the summit in aweful weather conditions. B1 61264 thumps its way through Yorfar Falls and in doing so makes an atmospheric exhaust display. J15 65462 stands at the water column after its delivery from The North Norfolk Railway. Q6 63395 and K1 62005 stand at Grosmont between duties. For the first time in the N.Y.M.Rs history, 2 A4s pass each other, 60007 passes its sister locomotive 60009 whilst on a sevice train to Pickering. Making its first ever visit to the N.Y.M.R, 60009 Union Of South Africa stands in late winter sunshine at Grosmont M.P.D. Little and large, J15 65642 and 60009 Union Of Sothe Africa stand on shed 60019 Bittern and 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley rub shoulders with each other while 60009 and J15 65462 stand outside. The last rays of daylight catch Bitterns cladding sheets. Gresley and the bird, Newly arrived 60019 Bittern stands in the running shed alongside 60007, the pair make an impressive display. Bittern had arrive the day before following a long trip from the Mid Hants Railway. The impressive lines of Sir Nigel Gresleys designs come together to form an imressive spectical. In fading light all 3 A4s line up to create a awesome spectical, from left to right are 60009 Union Of South Africa, 60019 Bittern and 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley. It must have been impressive to see this sight day in and day out at Kings Cross shed and other top link sheds. 60009 stands under the coaling plant at the end of the day. Even tho its not moving it still looks fast!!! 60009 comes to rest under the coaling tower afer disposal. 4771 Green Arrow charges through Beckhole on what turned out to be is penumltimate day in traffic before being withdrawn. This is a sight that wont be seen for a while, A V2 at speed!! 4771 Green Arrow passes through Moorgates, A stunning machine!!! The view though the guards door of J15 65462. B1 61264 climbs past Green end with a demonstration freight to Goathland. 62005 passes Abbots House on the approch to Goathland from Pickering. 63395 passes Abbots House after departing Goathland with the last train of the day to Pickering whilst being banked by J15 65462. The End of a very successfull gala, Its 4.45am and 60009 Union Of South Africa stands at Grosmont Station prior to departing for running back to its home base of Thornton Junction in Scotland. At the end of a successful steam test and a good clean just some of the people involved during the steam test pose for the camera, from left to right are, Chris Williams(on the ground),Me, Iain Hodgeman, Stuart Dennis( My Dad), Mark Thompson and Austin Pickering stand on Green Arrow. 45212 departs Grosmont in early summer sunshine with the last train of the day to Pickering. History was made when 60007 passed through Ruswarp on gauging trails on the Whitby branch. History has just been made as 60007 becomes the first ever A4 to run into Whitby town. Here 60007 leaves Whitby underneath the famous abbey. A birds eye view of 60007, as the A4 stops just before the high level road bridge just outside of Whitby for inspection. Gresleys legends at rest, 4771 and 60007 rest on shed for the night. A gloomy scene that must have been a regular sight during early B.R days. 60007 and 61264 stand face to face on shed. The last time we shall see these locos in steam together, 4771, 60007 and 61264, the trio creat an impressive sight. 4771 creates an impressive sight through the shed doors. Another view of the trio. White metal is melted onto 30926s eccentric strap. This is so that the problem of too much play in the eccentric strap can be cured. Once the white metal has cooled, the strap will be machined on a vertical boring machine to the correct diameter on refitted to the locomotives axle. With the chime whisle blowing, 60007 climbs through Darnholm with the first train of the day to Pickering. 4771 coasts over Goathland summit on the locos final day in traffic. With Adam Dalgleish in the drivers seat and driver John Fletcher next to him, Green Arrow rolls past Abbots House on the approch to Goathland. With Green Arrow on the back of its train, the V2 passes through Abbots House on the approch to Goathland prior to the locos final run. With Ray Towell at the controls,4771 makes a truely awesome noise at it canters past Abbots house on its final run, the calculated weight of its train including 7 teak coaches and a shut off Super D on the rear came to approx 300 tons made for a truely incrediable noise, and not even a hint of smoke!! Farewell Green Arrow. 63395 rounds Beckhole curve as the loco make light work of the 1in49 graident. Super Power indeed!! on the Super D 49395 and Q6 63395 double head a service train as the pair depart Grosmont. The Super D and the Q6 left the train at Newbrige Yard in redieness for transportation to the N.R.MS End of Steam Gala. 75029 banks the train whilst 49395 and 63395 do all the work. Not all railway animals are cats, here a rarther proud Bullfinch takes time to pose to the camera whilst standing on a gate at Goathland. 6619 chatters towards Goathland summit from Levisham. A birds eye view of 76079 as it starts to battle up the 1in49 past Esk Valley cottages. 76079 lifts its heavy train out of Grosmont. With its steam cocks open 76079 departs Grosmont with The Moorlander dining train to Pickering. 6619 banks the Moorlander dining train out of Grosmont and on towards Goathland.

Newly repainted K1 62005 comes off shed in stunning winter sun. Two legends meet. 4771 Green Arrow moves off shed past another L.N.E.R icon, 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley. 4771 clears water from the cylinders as it moves towards the pit. The impressive lines of 4771 are viewed as the V2 moves off the coaling plant and on to the water tower.. 4771 stands at Levisham prior to hauling a photo run past. 60532 Blue Peter stands at Nine Ems shed in August 1966. The site of Nine elms shed is now under Covent Garden Market. 60532 Blue Peter stands at Waterloo station on Sunday 14 August 1966. Its a relitivley new site as it was built in 1958 complete with a roundhouse,double wheel drop and a wheel lathe. Inside Thornaby Depots wheel drop pit. the wheelset comes down on the ram, onto a bogie and moved to a crane. The depot has 2 wheeldrops. The otherside of the double wheeldrop pit. An overall view of Thornaby depot. With the rotating center located, 45212 has its R/H drving wheel tyre machined, a faint line on the newly machined tyre indicates where the current cutt actually is. 45212 stands on the wheel lathe, the locomotive is pushed onto the wheel lathe and the rollers take the weight of the wheel set and the rail is retracted and so the maching process can begin. With theis tyre completed the rotating center is removed from 45212s driving wheel. An E.W.S machinest makes his final checks before machining 45212s L/L tyre. An E.W.S machinest places a reflective strip on 45212s tyre, the wheel is rotated and a lazer is beamed on to this reflective strip as it rotates, this gives the tyre dimentions so that the correct profile can be obtained. 45212 tyre is machined, a smoke haze can be seen at the bottom of the wheel which indicates that the tyre is being machined. 45212s job sheet, this gives the tyre dimentions, profile dimentions before and after machining, and intersting vehicle number dont you think!!! A view from underneith the locomotive, the swirl of swarf can be seen toward the bottom of the tyre. 45212 stands on the wheel lathe, the wheeldrop can be seen in the foreground. The pit to left of the picture was where A2 60532 Blue Peter was repaired after its wheelslip at Durham in 1994. 45212 is loaded in Tees yard prior for it departure to the N.Y.M.R. With a Teesside landmark in the background, Newport Bridge, 45212 leaves Tees Yard. In fading light, 45212 crosses over Tees Viaduct. 45212 crosses over Tees Yard Viaduct on its way back to the N.Y.M.R.

The stunning Glenfinnan viewed from the train. The highest mountain in the U.K, Ben Nevis. 45407 and 62005 stand on shed. 62005 was in steam after have ran the days service. 62005 clears the water from its cylinders as it move off she shed in typical Fort William weather (Rain) as it goes to collect its stock. Neptunes staircase that carries the Caledonian canal. 45407 stands at Fort William station prior to departure to Mallaig. This was the locos first day in traffic that week after repair after having failed after it was discovered during a washout that 45407 had 5 broken stays,So the brick arch was knocked out , the brokens stays were drilled out, the stay holes retapped, new ones fitted and a new brickarch formed, all done with in 3 days!! A credit to Adam dalgliesh, Clive Goult and Mick Wilson for the efforts. Loch Arloit church in the middle of nowhere!! Since it was pitch black on shed, the locos make some intersting shapes, so set up the camera on my tripod and took a few pictures, but they didnt show up well on the camera as it was too dark, so i borrowed a high powered torch from the support coach and lit up the front of the loco to try and get a bit more light on it, however, too much light in this case it didnt work, but i have used this picture because i like the shadow of the chimmney on the steam. K1 62005 stands on Fort William shed. 45407 simmers (sort of) on shed. 62005 rests on shed. 45407 is ready to collect its stock at 11pm, this is the result from using a high powered torch to light the engine up, the shed was pitch black!!! Fireman Frank Santrain chats to a passenger and also fan. Frank was the driver of Hogwarts castle in the second Harry Potter film, he was driving the loco in the scene with the flying car over Glenfinnian viaduct. Frank had been wearing a Hogwarts expess polo shirt and baseball cap all week! The best of friends, Driver Paul Kane(left) and Frank Santrain. 45407 has its tender filled with coal by traction inspector Lachie MacNeill. The sun rays start to break through the clouds after Ben Nevis summit had just encountered another down pour. A fishing boat undergoes a bit of a refurbishment. A man and his best friend studies Mallaig harbour. Mallaig harbour 45407 crosses the famous Glenfinnian Viaduct. A view of Ben Nevis from the train as we head towards Fort William. With its newly repainted smokebox, 6619 looks supurb as it is being prepaired for its visit to the Weardale railway. Joint owner Kevin Gould watches as 6619 is turned. Austin Pickering helps to turn 6619. Later that same day 6619 is ready to be transported to Weardale. If you look closely under the front of the smokebox you can see some steam from the snifting valves to prove that the engine was still in light steam whilst on the back of the lowloader!! 6619 leaves Pickering for Weardale. This picture just shows how big the engine is against the buildings. The lowloader driver looks back to see if alls well as he steers 6619 round the roundabout on the outskirts of Pickering 6619 gets some admiring glances from passing motorists. 6619 is lit up on its first day in traffic. 6619 comes off the ash pit as it goes to collect its stock. 6619 stands at Wolsingham station prior to hauling a test train to Stanhope. With the speed in the 70s, 60009 flashes through Malton. A sight thats about to change, 60009 passes under the soon to-be dismantled signal gantry on the aproach to Scarborough station. The heat wave in the distance give you a clue on how hot the day was!!! 60009 runs round the stock prior to being turned on the turntable. 60009 is turned on the turntable at Scarborough prior to being serviced for the return trip to York and round the Yorkshire circle. 60009 stands at Scarborough whilst a member of the support crew fills the lubricators with oil. In fading light, 62005 canters through Redcar central and past the old and the new Redcar and Cleveland college. With its sanders on and with Driver Ron Smith on the regulator, Battle of Britian 34067 Tangmere climbs its way through Belmont Crossing with the summers first Scarborough Spa Express. Oh those lazy summer days in the 1960s heading towards the south coastfor your summer holiday. This is 2008 as 34067 Tangmere canters through Colton South Junction with the Scarborough Spa Express. 34067 charges towards York passing through Colton South Junction. Ribblehead Viaduct stands in brief summer sun. This shot was taken at Ribblehead Viaduct on the Settle to Carlisle railway, 70013 Oliver Cromwell crosses Ribblehead Viaduct on a re-run of 1T57 , the last steam hauled train to run before the end of steam, Also this is 70013s first main line run in preservation since it hauled its last train on 11th August 1968 which was 1T57 40 years ago. The year this proud structure was built. Also on a re-run of 1T57 45231 & 45407 pass through Birkett Common.

45212 comes off shed after having its smokebox cleaned. 45212 comes off shed after being serviced prior to hauling the 16.50 service to Pickering, as it comes off shed 45212 creates an atmosphere of being in a late 1950s B.R steam shed but i can assure you that this picture was taken in 2007!!! The frames of under overhaul Black 5 44767 George Stephenson. As 75029 waits for the K1 to arrive from Grosmont, 2 trespassers stroll past, 10 minutes later they headed back to the station just as the K1 arrived. Later in the day after 75029 left for Grosmont a gentleman walked his 2 dogs up the 4 foot towards Larpool viaduct without leashes!!!! 62005 coasts around the curve into Whitby Town station as 2 trespassers get out of the way of the K1. 62005 passes 75029 in the siding, When was the last time this happened with 2 steam engines in Whitby? 75029 makes a thunderous departure from Whitby. This is the view that greated passengers through the main entrance into Whitby town station. 62005 waits at Whitby Town prior to running light engine back to Grosmont. 62005 passes under the impressive Larpool Viaduct. Deltic, D9009 Alycidon and D6700 climb past Esk Valley cottages. 6619 with its newly extended corridor bunker. A suitably weathered 6619 stands at Levisham on its way back from Newbridge yard, 6619 had just returned from a visit to the North Norfolk Railway the day before and was running back light engine to Grosmont. 45212 departs Grosmont in supurb early summer sun. The N.Y.M.R at their best, clean engine and clean stock. 80135 departs Grosmont in fine style as it heads for Goathland. In glorious summer sun, 60007 arrives at Goathland, a far cry from the previous days rain. This was a shuttle service from Grosmont to Goathland because the line was blocked because of flooding at Levisham and even more so at Pickering!! 45212 leaves the shed have just been prepared for the last train of the day. A shovel has been left against the firemans side step. 30926 Repton coasts through Moorgates on its way to Goathland. 30926 Repton passes over bridge 30 on it way to Goathland. B1 61264 approches Larpool viaduct on it s way to Whitby. B1 61264 passes the site of the old Whitby town gas works. 60007 stands at Grosmont M.P.D prior to hauling the evening diner. 30926 Repton stands on the pit at Grosmont M.P.D ant the end of the day. 60007 reverses past 63395 on its way to Grosmont station to collect its train.

This is the cylinder off Salmon Trout this is going to be fitted to 4472 Flying Scotsman. The frames of legendry L.N.E.R. A3 4472 Flying Scotsman are under heavy overhaul. The fastest of them all, L.N.E.R A4 4468 Mallard stands proudly in the N.R.Ms great hall. This is the place where history was made when Mallard achieved 126mph. 6000s double crank driving axle. Sunday 21 January 2007: These are a collecton of photographs taken during the closed running season where engines,carrages and trackwork undergo general repair before the start of the new 2007 running season.

With its tender removed. A4 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley undergoes winter maintainance. The P.W gang repair trackwork near Grosmont station. Luke Corkin makes a start on painting the sides of 6619s smokebox. 6619 under goes routine winter maintainance. 6619 has had its smokebox numberplate by me to be repainted. Sir Nigel Gresley sits inside the running shed. 60007 is currently being fitted with T.P.W.S, O.M.R and air brakes for mainline running. 80135 recives some firebox work. The rivets around the firehole door on 30926 have been replaced, A section of the copper inner firebox around the firehole door has also been replaced and welded. The new wheel drop begins to take shape. N.E.L.P.Gs K1 62005 recives some welding to its blast pipe. The cab layout of 62005. The k1s tender drag box has recived some new platework. This was the reason the engine was split from its tender. 75029s smokebox recives a new spark arrester. 6619 with the trailing wheelset removed, these were removed to gain access to rivet the back frame stretcher that had worked loose. The trailing wheelset off 6619. Kevin Gould, the joint owner of 6619, removes ash from the tubes using a hose pipe. A skilled Copper smith is copper welding the brand new inner firebox for Black 5 45428 Eric Treacy. This type of welding is only under taken by coded welders, after which each of the welds are ultra sonicley tested for flaws, if a flaw is found they have to be ground out, re-welded and then tested again! 75029 is reciving a piston and valve examination. Also the engine is being fitted with T.P.W.S, to enable it to run to Whitby, The 50H shed code is Grosmont, the SC indicates that the engine was at one time fitted with a self cleaning smokebox. 6619s smokebox looks supurb in black gloss, shame it wont last long!!! Luke Corkin places some coal on the frost fires. The safety valve bonnets on 45212 have been removed to ajust both safety valves. 45212s back safety valve (right) is set to 45212s working pressure which is 225psi, The front valve (left) is set to 230 psi, the ajustment tool can be seen on the right next to the back safety valve. This must be done while engine is in steam and witness them both lifting at the set pressures. After which the bonnets are refitted and sealed to avoid anyone tampering with them after the have been set. 60007 stands in the back of the running shed whilst it recives attention to its exspansion links. 75029s new self-cleaning smokebox.

I saw a picture taken by Sutcliffe taken from this spot in 1880, so i thought id have a go. A very windy day on Redcar beach. Before a storm. This is looking towards Redcar blast furnace. This is a shooting lodge that was used in the 1880s for people who whilst out shooting birds were caught out by the weather. Impressive structure for just a shelter!! Standard Tank 80135 stands outside in horrible winter weather. high winds and driving rain!!! Fresh after a £300.000 overhaul no 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley stands next to Grosmont fabrication shop. The inside firebox throat plate of 45428 Eric Treacy prior to drilling, the old can be seen underneath, they are both made from copper and the new section cost £25.000 to manufacture!! B.R Standard no 75029 stands next to Grosmont fabrication shop as it is being prepared for a washout. A view inside the cods mouth! 60007 is being prepared for the main Autumn steam gala. Schools class 30926 Repton sits next to the fabrication shop in non typical winter weather, sun! 30926 Repton sits outside the running shed. Schools class 30926 Repton stands next to Grosmont fabrication shop having failed with a hot tender axlebox. 30926 Repton is well lit by the fabrication shop floodlights. Its 12.45pm,the Moorlander diner is about to leave and train stewardess Jenny Breuer is the only person on the platform at Grosmont!! 30926 Repton passes Green End on the 1 in 49 climb to Goathland(Adensfield.) 6619 is sitting the running shed after being washed out. With all the frost fires lit, Lambton Tank no 29, 6619, Super D 49395 and S15 825 share the running shed. 6619 shunts at grosmont after hauling an owners special. A close up of an early B.R crest. 6619 rests in the running shed after hauling an owners special the previous day. 45212 minus its tender is all but complete after reassembley from its firebox repair work and is awaiting a steam test. Maurice Johnson rakes the fire on 45212 first steam test after firebox repair. 45212 is steam tested prior to a running in turn to Goathland and back. S15 No 825 (ex 841) and S&D 53809 create a southern atmosphere in a north east station. Black 5 45212 leaves Grosmont bound for Pickering in horrible weather. A nice glow from the fire from Black 5 45212. Black 5 45212 is winterized. N.E.R. class Q6 63395 is nearing the end of a long overhaul. This engine last ran in 1982! Black 5 45212 is steam tested after some firebox repair work. The smokebox number plate and shed plate were removed by me to repaint. B.R Standard no 75029 clears the water from its cylinders as it moves off the shed. A brand new boiler undertest. N.Y.M.R boilersmith Adam Dalgleish makes his final checks prior to an insurance exam the next day. The horizontal water tubed boiler is for N.E.R steam crane 330107. The old one can be seen next to it. Its -1 and everything is frozen! Southern railway S15 no 825 and L.M.S. Black 5 45212 are outside in the frost. Also there is the tender off A4 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley. A close up of 80135 's Injector overflow pipes. Standard Tank 80135 shelters from the winter weather. 80135 from a pit in the running shed. 80135 simmers in the running shed after hauling the return trip of Moorlander dining train from Pickering earlier that day. 6619 stands outside the running shed in high winds and driving rain. In poor lighting, 80135 is speeding its way to Pickering, this is my first ever attempt at a panned shot. This would have been a good photo if it wasnt for the cars. 80135 heads for Pickering. Repton sits at Goathland with the 12.45 Moorlander service from Grosmont. Repton at speed! Repton heads for Pickering......... ...being banked by Lambon Tank No29 ..the pair steam past onlookers..... ...and then head for Pickering. Goathland Station at the end of the day. A close up of one of the platform lamps. Barry wreck, Southern Railway S15 30830 (830) is the next engine to be restored to full working order. Since this photo has been taken, the cab roof has been removed and a start on removing the tubes has been made. 45212 sits next to the Deviation shed.The Deviation shed sits on a site of the old Deviation signalbox. This signalbox was demolished in the 1970s. The smoke from the frost fires fills the shed and creates a very atmospheric B.R scene. Black 5 45212 lurks in the running shed. Heavy snow creates a wintery scene.
